Derelict And Vacant Properties Crisis To Focus On 17 Town Information Events

Donegal County Council is keen to let the public know the extent of supports available.

Supports available to help refurbish derelict and vacant properties throughout Donegal will be available at information events organised by Donegal County Council throughout the county next week and during the first week of October.

Help is on the way to tackle the derelict and vacant property crisis in Donegal.

The problem of derelict and vacant properties has been a constant throrn in the side for the council and councillors. It has been raised at almost every meeting over the past few years and has been blamed for adding to the housing crisis.

The public is encouraged to come along and find out further information on the following supports – no appointments are needed.

Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant Scheme

Grants up to €84,000 available to refurbish vacant and derelict properties that have been vacant for two years or more and will be the owner’s principal private residence or made available to rent.

Repair and Lease Scheme

Financial support of €80,000 per unit is available to bring vacant properties back into use to lease to Donegal County Council for social housing in areas where there is a need.

Conservation Advice Grant Scheme – Expressions of Interest

Expressions of interest can be made to help fund the cost of having a conservation expert provide advice to refurbish vacant traditional farmhouses that are availing of the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant Scheme.

You can drop into one of the events to find out about the supports that are available to help you with the refurbishment costs.
